China has emerged as the second largest economy in the world overtaking Germany and setting its sights on USA. The Chinese economy is currently estimated to be around USD 3 trillion with an average per capita income of 2400 dollars. This is a far cry from the USD 14 trillion USA economy with an average per capital income of 24000 USD.
If China has to become the largest economy it has to improve its foreign direct as well as local investment, training its work force for productivity gains and improvement in its infrastructure. This means that China will grow travel industry to accommodate the experts and investors traveling to China. China hotel rooms will grow with the economy. According to International Air Transport Association passenger traffic across Asia outstripped that of North America for the first time in 2009. Chinese budget hotel brand competes with larger rivals

Among its U.S.-traded Chinese hotel rivals, China Lodging has the biggest share of its hotels in the top-tier cities of Beijing and Shanghai, where hotels can charge higher rates. Within China’s premier cities, it has the most centrally located hotels compared with other budget chains.
As it expands, China Lodging wants to maintain a reputation for having prime locations. But while the company looks to add about 200 hotels a year, it characterizes its growth plan as both aggressive and deliberate. More >
